Through her time with the Tsuha Global Fellowship, Dr. Matyanga will focus on harnessing indigenous knowledge and scientific rigor to develop a safe, affordable, and accessible functional food from the African potato. This project will empower communities in Zimbabwe through enhanced food security, cultural preservation, and consumer-driven innovation. It will stimulate local value chains, create jobs, and position indigenous crops as drivers of sustainable development

Celia MJ Matyanga is a distinguished researcher, pharmacist, mentor, and lecturer whose work bridges clinical pharmacology, public health, and innovation in functional foods. She holds a PhD and a Master’s in Clinical Pharmacology, alongside a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), and has further strengthened her expertise through global grants and leadership certifications.  Her research excellence has been recognized through prestigious awards and fellowships, including the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award, the NIH Fogarty International Center grant, and the Mawazo Fellowship, among others listed on her ORCID profile.  She has authored 21 publications and presented at local and international conferences on topics spanning clinical pharmacology, HIV research, pharmacy practice, and health education.
