Goals of the GREAT Program

GREAT is an intensive 5-day course. Students learn how to develop a research plan, understand the elements of the research process, and identify the health needs and healthcare delivery opportunities in their setting. The teaching is highly interactive and practical with short lectures and small group discussions with exercises. Students will be expected to complete assigned reading and view videos before the course and be able to do homework in the evenings without work- or family -related distractions. Faculty will be present throughout the week and strive to achieve the following goals:

  1. Build capacity for quality clinical, epidemiologic & operational research in Thailand

  2. Develop working and effective networks of clinicians, researchers and academicians in Thailand

  3. Quantify the burden of prevalent diseases in Thailand

  4. Provide the science base for changing health, or public health policy including the development of clinical guidelines

Applications

Who Should Apply?

The course is designed for clinicians, investigators, and academicians to provide training in all aspects of research. Applicants should have completed, or close to completing, their training in Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing or other Allied Health disciplines and be interested in developing their skills in research in their field. No prior research experience is needed. The goal of GREAT is to increase understanding and knowledge of all aspects of the research process and provide mentoring for those who would like to start or continue carrying out research.
